Ternamian Endotip Styled Trocar 12mm
The Endotip Trocar in 12mm is designed to replace the conventional trocars owing to it's endo-tip design. It does not require an obturator and offers a range of advantages for both surgeon as well as the patient. It is to be used with 10mm instruments and can also be used with 5mm instruments (with a Reducer). The trocar has a leur lock and an automatic valve.

For routine feline laparoscopy, most UK veterinary surgeons now prefer an TERNAMIAN™ style endotip trocar that we supply over a sharp obturator design. A sharp trocar pierces the animal (small animal) skin with uncontrolled force, causing tissue tearing and postoperative guarding. An endotip screws into place, displacing rather than cutting tissue. The result is less bruising, faster
recovery, and fewer owner calls at 48 hours. The standard primary port size is 5 mm. A 3-mm trocar works well as an additional instrument port forsaking a sample or injecting into the tumor. A 10 mm trocar is used for procedures requiring larger diameter graspers or clip applicators.

The right choice depends on the type of surgery and the patient. Sharp trocar: Best for large dogs with thick body walls, procedures requiring rapid instrument exchange or surgeons who prefer familiar tactile feedback.
Endotip: Best for cats, small dogs, and any patient with thin or soft tissue. Reduces postoperative pain and speeds healing.

For routine laparoscopic ovariectomy in small dogs, use a 5 mm primary port. In medium to large
dogs, 5 mm remains standard for the camera, with a second 5 mm port for instruments. Some
surgeons prefer 10 mm for the primary port in giant breeds to accommodate larger clip applicators.
Most surgeons report confidence after 5 to 7 live cases based on our experience. The first 3 to 4 procedures feel slower and less intuitive than a sharp trocar. We recommend practising on a phantom for 5 sessions before live use. Track your times and compare outcomes at case 10.
